Rainbow Crosswalk

  • 20 Jesup Road Westport, CT, 06880 United States (map)

Westport Pride, in collaboration with the Town of Westport and local volunteers, is thrilled to announce the installation of a vibrant rainbow crosswalk in downtown Westport, Connecticut. This groundbreaking initiative aims to promote inclusivity and celebrate the diverse community of Westport. The crosswalk installation will take place on June 1, 2023, transforming the heart of Westport into a symbol of unity and acceptance.

"We are incredibly excited to bring this rainbow crosswalk installation to downtown Westport," said Brian McGunagle, President of Westport Pride. “This vibrant display of colors will not only serve as a visual celebration of the LGBTQ+ community but will also act as a message of solidarity, welcoming residents and visitors alike to embrace diversity and foster a safe and accepting environment in Westport.”

The temporary rainbow crosswalk, a first for Westport, will be created using an innovative product called AlumiGraphics Grip. The rainbow crosswalk, adorned with the colors of the Progress Pride Flag, serves as a powerful symbol of inclusivity and support of all residents in Westport, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.  The design will be piano key style, with 11 colors featured between the white spaces of the existing crosswalk.

The crosswalk has been generously sponsored by Dr. Nikki Gorman of Village Pediatrics, a Westport based pediatric practice; and Galia Gichon, personal financial expert and host of The Fiscal Firecrackers, the PODCAST that Educates, Entertains and Empowers You About Your Money.

A hardy crew of 11 — including Selectwomen Jen Tooker and Andrea Moore;  crosswalk sponsor Dr. Nikki Gorman; Public Works Department director Pete Ratkiewich; RTM members Harris Falk and Sal Liccione; Planning & Zoning commission chair Danielle Dobin; Westport Pride founder Brian McGunagle, and members Nicole Klein, Bethany Eppner and Geoff Gaspar — gathered at the Jesup Road/Taylor Place intersection at 5 a.m. June 1st, to install the crosswalk.
